The Namibian Dolphin Project only takes on interns in during the winter field season. During 2012 we will be taking on 6 interns for July and August for our normal field season in Walvis Bay. During May and June we are looking for 3 highly qualified interns with a real interest in a career in marine mammal research to be involved in offshore surveys based out of Luderitz.
6 interns, 17 sea days, 79:17 hours at sea, 3 stranding surveys at a flamingo dissection
4 interns, 21 sea days, 110:52 hours at sea, 1 stranding of a Heaviside’s dolphin and a turtle
4 interns, 17 sea days, 72:51 hours at sea, 1 bottlenose dolphin stranding
4 interns, 15 sea days, 68:11 hours at sea, 1 live stranding event with 7 bottlenose dolphins (refloated)
18 days at sea, 94 hours, a camping weekend at Spitzkoppe and a stranded humpback whale to deal with
Nice small team – 2 interns, 12 days at sea across 3 towns (Mowe Bay, Walvis Bay and Luderitz) and 2 strandings
15 days at sea, 74 hours. Necropsies of stranded killer whale and Heaviside’s dolphin calves
12 days at sea, 52:22 hours. Attempted rescue and later necropsy of a stranded humpback whale
